afrinpost– Exclusive

The Turkish authorities have arrested Khaled Ali Ali, also known as Abu Salmo, on July 16th in the al-Ashrafieh neighborhood near the power station in Afrin. He is being accused of carrying out compulsory military service during the previous Autonomous Administration in occupied Afrin.

Khaled Ali, a 31-year-old Arab resident of Afrin, works as a shepherd. His arrest follows the recent detention of Rizwan Haji bin Mustafa, a 55-year-old resident of the town of Badeena, by the Turkish-backed Civil Police militia in the town of Rajo on July 10th. Rizwan was also falsely charged with working with the previous Autonomous Administration in Afrin.

These arrests add to the growing list of human rights abuses and arbitrary detentions in the region. According to documented cases by “afrinpost,” there were 60 cases of arrests and kidnappings in June 2023, including four women. Additionally, there have been 50 reported cases of release, including some individuals who were previously detained. The situation is further exacerbated by the existence of cases of enforced disappearances.
