Amid a climate of lawlessness and impunity in the occupied region of Afrin, Turkish forces and the SNA groups persist in their campaign of oppression, racial discrimination, and criminal activities against Kurdish civilians.
In a recent incident, Abu al-Jalalib, a commander in the Jaish al-Sharqiya militia, and his son, Abu Bara, reportedly set ablaze three tents belonging to Kurdish families. These tents had been set up in front of their homes in the Industry neighborhood of Jindires, the occupied town, following the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023.
According to local sources, the armed commander and his son manipulated their mentally disabled son to carry out the act of burning the tents, aiming to evade responsibility and accountability. This crime is not an isolated incident, as the commander has a history of inciting his mentally disabled son to commit acts of aggression and crime fueled by hatred and racism against Kurdish residents in Jindires.
It is worth noting that members of the Jaish al-Sharqiya militia previously assaulted Hassan Mohammed Hamid, a 17-year-old Kurdish youth, on March 24, 2023, for raising the Kurdish flag, inflicting severe injuries on him in the occupied town of Jindires.
Furthermore, the militia’s leader, Hussein al-Hammadi, issued an order to his fighters, instructing them to prevent Kurdish residents from lighting fires in celebration of the Newroz holiday. The order authorized the use of force to suppress the celebrants, stating, ” Punish severely anyone who kindles a fire and bring them to the headquarters.” Tragically, as a result of this directive, four Kurdish civilians were killed in Jindires when they were shot for igniting the Newroz flame in 2023.
