Young man from Afrin allegedly killed and covered up in Istanbul

Abdulrahman Aziz Hamou, a 21-year-old man from the village of Sindiyanke/Jindires, was having dinner with his mother and sister on Sunday, April 30, 2023, when he left the house located in the Beyram Tepe neighborhood in Istanbul for a moment to attend to something.

Not long after, Turkish security forces knocked on the door and informed his mother and sister of Abdulrahman’s death in the street across from their house, stating that he committed suicide after killing a girl he was in love with, according to Turkish authorities.

The street was full of security personnel and ambulances, and the family was unable to see their son’s body as the police requested that the victim’s family leave the neighborhood immediately.

After days, the victim’s family received Abdulrahman’s body from the hospital and sent it to his hometown in Sindiyanke, in Afrin, to bury him in the family cemetery.

A video clip shows the family examining the body and discovering bruises on the face and eyes, as well as two gunshot wounds in the head, in addition to a large incision in the abdomen and head due to the body’s autopsy. This contradicts the Turkish authorities’ account of the suicide because suicide is usually committed with one shot to the head, which is sufficient to kill the person and prevent them from pulling the trigger a second time. The bruises on the face indicate that there was a fight before the shooting.

The victim’s family appealed for the help of media and human rights organizations to urge Turkish authorities to investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to the Turkish media reports, a foreigner killed his Turkish girlfriend and then committed suicide by shooting himself in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul.

The deceased girl was identified as Adanur Özkul, 23 years old, who worked with Abdulrahman at a textile factory in the Başakşehir area of Istanbul.
