On April 22, 2023, a Kurdish young man named “Juma Ali” (37 years old) from the village of Shingeleh in the Rajo sub-district of Afrin was arrested by the military police militia, after attempting to enter Turkish territory through smuggling routes. He was then taken to the Rajo military prison.
According to our correspondent, a smuggler named “Abu Badri” from the city of Azaz, who was paid $4500, smuggled Juma Ali into Turkey from Aleppo. Abu Badri then reported and handed him over to the Turkish gendarmerie. Upon his arrest, the gendarmerie brutally beat him and handed him over to the “National Army” militias in the village of Deir Sawan, who in turn handed him over to the Rajo police militia and placed him in Rajo military prison.
“afrinpost” has documented 38 cases of arrests and abductions during the month of April 2023, including 30 cases that targeted civilians from Afrin, including a woman and three minors, as well as the arrest of a female civilian with four children on Turkish territory and the arrest of a civilian man and woman in Aleppo. Fourteen cases of release were also documented.
