Turkish Forces Build New Military Base in Syria’s Afrin

afrinpost– Exclusive

Turkish forces have reportedly established a new military base on the Afrin-Azaz road in the village of Kafr Janna in the Shara district of occupied Afrin. local sources reported to “afrinpost” that the Turkish forces have placed cement blocks and began digging with bulldozers at the junction of the village. This development comes after continued clashes and tensions between the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia and the “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” organization, as both sides seek to gain control of the strategically important village of Kafr Janna, which is considered the vital artery to the occupied city of Afrin.

On February 24th, 2023, Kafr Janna witnessed military tension between the “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” organization and the “National Army” militias over the control of the Vanguard Camp. After the organization took control of the camp, the militias deployed with Turkish tanks in the village of Mareska in the Shera/Sharan district to prevent reinforcements from reaching the organization. After negotiations between the organization and Turkish intelligence, the organization’s elements withdrew towards the city of Afrin and the village of Maryamin.

The Turkish army and its affiliated militias have prevented the return of residents to several villages, such as Qastal Jundu, Bafalun, Sinka, Baarafa, Jalber, Kublah, Dirmashmash, Zrikat, Basleh, Khalta-Rubariya, Çiya, Sheikhurz, and Tillef. They have turned these villages into military bases or dwellings for armed groups.

According to the Hawar news agency in October 2022, the Turkish forces have established more than 50 military bases in villages and towns in the Afrin region. They have also established about 15 military bases on the ruins of the homes of local residents in villages along the front lines in the Sherawa and Shara districts. These villages include (Basufan, Kabashin, Kimar, Dirmashmash, Jabal Al-Ahlam, Basuta, Basla, Jilbir) in the Sherawa district and several villages in the Shara/Sharan district.
