Jaish al-Sharqiya leader attempts to reconcile with Kurdish family of Jindires massacre victims

afrinpost– Exclusive

The attempt to prevent further bloodshed following the Newroz Genocide in Jindires town in Afrin continued yesterday with a visit by Major Hussein Hamada, leader of the Turkish-affiliated Jaish al-Sharqiya militia, to the homes of the victims. Accompanied by a delegation of local dignitaries, Hamada was reportedly attempting to broker a peace deal between the killers and the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, rumors abound that Abu Habib Khasham, the one behind the gruesome massacre of the Peshmerga family, may be released. Local sources claim that Hamada directly ordered the attack and has since instructed his men to prevent Kurdish locals from lighting fires to celebrate Newroz and to use force to quash any revelry. He allegedly told his men to “burn the eyes of anyone who lights a fire on the embers and chase them out of the area.”

Several delegations, coordinated with Turkish authorities, have visited the homes of the victims, including a delegation from the Barzani Charity Foundation sent by the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, and a delegation from the so-called Syrian Interim Government led by Abdul Rahman Mustafa, and a delegation from the Association of Independent Syrian Kurds.

Yasmine Mustafa, mother of the martyred Mohammed Othman and wife of the martyred Farhad Othman, spoke out in an interview on the Kurdish Rudaw channel, saying: “The promises we received from day one are the same, and they have not been fulfilled, and we do not trust these authorities.” She referred to the Turkish security and judicial authorities.

Yasmine also denied all rumors of reconciliation, saying: “They say we took $100,000 for reconciliation, but it is not $100,000; all the money in the world is not worth one of the four martyrs. Our case is not about money, not even for one more day in our lives. Our demand is clear: the killers must be executed, and these people must leave our area. Enough! It has been five years.” She added, “Just witnessing them doing something, or releasing the innocent, will be enough for us.”

In a statement made to the website of the Association of Syrian Kurdish Independents on April 12th, 2023, Azad Othman, the director of the organization’s Afrin office, affirmed that they have taken action to bring the perpetrators of the Jindires massacre to justice. According to Othman, the Association of Independents has been actively working at all levels to hold the criminals accountable since the moment the heinous crime was committed.

Othman went on to state that the Liberation and Construction Movement has, at the request of both the people and the Association of Syrian Kurdish Independents, expelled the families of the criminals and their supporters from the “Olive Branch” area. This move comes in response to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights’ announcement that the military police militia has been lenient with the three detainees, allowing one of the individuals involved in the crime to leave prison and spend time at home for several hours every three days. During this time, the individual is reported to spend his hours eating, showering, and occasionally spending a night out before returning to prison.
