The Turkish authorities and the affiliated militias are not content with merely committing numerous human rights violations, including pressuring Kurdish citizens to abandon their land and property, forcibly displacing them, and preventing their return. Additionally, they are allegedly obstructing the burial of the dead on their land.
A citizen from Kotana village in the Bulbul sub-district was prevented from burying his father in his village in Afrin. According to local sources, the man had lost his father, Jamil Seydo Naasan, in the city of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and wished to bring his father’s body to his village in Afrin.
“In Afrin, the Military Police redirected the son to a branch in Qatmah village in the Shara sub-district, claiming that they lacked the authority to allow the deceased to be brought into Afrin,” the sources confirmed
Despite his repeated attempts, the Military Police in Qatmah village refused to grant permission for him to bring in the body of his father. This forced his relatives in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to bury his father in Duhok city.
