Turkish-affiliated militias in Afrin have imposed a new financial tax on the residents of Khalilaka village, Bulbul\ Bilbilê sub-district. The tax is claimed to be for protecting the olive fields from cutting operations carried out by gangs.
According to our reporter, the “Sultan Murad” militia is also seizing all the properties of forcibly displaced persons, which is estimated to be around 40,000 trees of olives, almonds, grapes, and others. The properties of several families, including (the Kajala family, Hussain Hussain, Mohammed Ibrahim,Gulin Hassan, Mohamed Omar, Abdulmajid Muhammed, Ça’no family, and Hisko family) have been taken over. The militia does not accept proxies and imposes a 10% tax on production.
The situation is further exacerbated by the cutting down of thousands of olive trees and natural forests in Mount Hawar and the entire “Osb Shiyar” shrine trees, for logging, charcoal production, and trafficking. The area has ten furnaces that are contributing to this destruction.
In a separate incident, armed thieves stole a motorcycle belonging to a citizen from the village of Gazawiya. The theft occurred in front of the tailoring workshop where the citizen works, in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin.
