On February 25, 2023, the so-called Al-Khair Foundation – Middle East office posted a tweet announcing the start of a new settlement village project in Lelun (Al-Ahlam) mountain in Afrin, claiming to assist those affected by the earthquake that struck the area on February 6th.
The foundation stated that Sheikh Imam Qasim, the chairman of the board of trustees of Al-Khair Foundation, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new residential village on Al-Ahlam mountain in Afrin, which will be allocated to survivors and those affected by the recent earthquake.
In a video accompanying the news, Qasim mentioned that they had previously established a camp in the same area but it was only intended for temporary housing, while they look forward to providing permanent housing for what he called “displaced persons and earthquake victims” who are actually IDP who were brought in by Turkey and its affiliated-militias.
Qasim stated that his foundation collaborates with the Ansar Foundation as a strategic partner to implement their projects. He also announced the launch of a project to construct a new village, featuring permanent housing units with larger areas of 50 square meters, dedicated to families and equipped with larger facilities. Qasim urged various institutions and relevant authorities to contribute to the settlement village reconstruction project.
It is worth mentioning that the targeted area for the new settlement village construction is situated in Lelun (Al-Ahlam) mountain, roughly 3-4 kilometers from Al-Shamia village settlement located beneath the Kurdish village of Kimar in the Shirawa district.
