Turkish aid organization accused of discrimination in earthquake relief efforts

The Turkish aid organization “Goal” toured the villages surrounding the devastated city of Jindires and distributed aid to only affected IDPs loyal to Turkey, excluding Kurdish residents.

The aid package amounted to $150 per family as part of their efforts to enable and support IDPs loyal to them at the expense of the indigenous population of the occupied Afrin region, in line with the policy of demographic change pursued by the Turkish authorities.

Kurdish citizens complain of racial discrimination in the distribution of aid and relief that reached the region after the earthquake that struck the area on February 6th.

Most of the indigenous population are forced to buy tents to pitch next to their demolished homes, which is used as an excuse to deprive them of aid, as they refuse to go to camps.

In this context, the German organization “Society for Threatened Peoples” said in a statement issued on February 23rd that Qatar plans to support ethnic cleansing in the Afrin region of northern Syria following the earthquake, stating that these plans represent a catastrophe for the Kurdish population in the area.

It pointed out that this step began under the guise of humanitarian aid, and thousands of Arab and Turkmen families are planned to be encouraged to settle in Afrin under the protection of Turkey, which controls the region.
