Protest in Al-Shahba Demands End to Siege and Aid Access for Earthquake-affected civilians

afrinpost – Exclusive

Hundreds of displaced and affected residents of Afrin rallied today, February 13th, in front of the Syrian regime checkpoint in the town of Al-Ahdath in the northern Aleppo countryside, rejecting the continuation of the siege on the area and demanding access for humanitarian aid, fuel, medicine, and other necessities for the civilians.

Around 3,000 families from the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh fled to villages in Al-Shahba area following the devastating earthquake that struck early on February 6th, 2023, causing extensive damage and destruction to hundreds of homes that are now uninhabitable.

Our reporter informs us that the area is in dire need of tents, medical supplies, baby food, milk, fuel, and flour, among others, due to the increasing number of residents in region, after a large number of people from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh have been displaced as a result of the earthquake that destroyed their homes, while others can no longer reside in their damaged or vulnerable homes.

The checkpoint of the fourth division of the Syrian regime army continues to impose the siege on Al-Shahba, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Ashrafiyeh areas in Aleppo, causing suffering for all sections of the Syrian people residing there.
