afrinpost – Special
‘A survivor of the earthquake informed “afrinpost” that militants from the “National Army” militia and their families have taken control of the tents intended for the indigenous Kurdish population who have been affected by the disaster. The survivor explained that thousands of civilians are currently sleeping outside due to the destruction of their homes in the earthquake that occurred on February 6th.’
Our reporter confirmed that local volunteer teams had been formed to assist in the recovery of bodies trapped under the rubble, but the efforts of these teams were hindered by the militants. The militants prevented the volunteers from participating in the recovery process and also stopped the delivery of vehicles that were meant to aid in the rescue efforts. This has only added to the number of earthquake victims still trapped under the rubble.
There are ongoing disputes among the families of the militants regarding the distribution of aid and relief materials. Upon arrival, the trucks of aid rarely reach the affected Kurdish population and are instead primarily distributed among the militants and their families.
As a result, the affected people in the city of Jinderes are appealing, through ‘afrinpost‘, to humanitarian organizations and the international community for assistance and to raise their voice on their behalf.
The reporter added that the families of the militants, who have relocated from Eastern Ghouta, Hama, and Homs, are stealing property, including jewelry and money, from the earthquake victims under the pretext of assisting in the distribution of bodies.
The armed militants and their families have also caused hindrance to the work of the rescue teams. In some cases, over 50 people, including the families of the militants, gathered around the rescue teams to steal jewelry from the bodies of the victims as they were being removed from the rubble, the reporter confirmed.
