Yesterday, Tuesday, the German “Welthungerhilfe” organization decided to stop the project of restoring destroyed homes in the occupied Afrin region, after the protest letter submitted by human rights organizations, civil and media organizations, against the projects implemented by the organization in the occupied territory.
A spokeswoman for the organization told the German Evangelical Press Agency: “After verifying all the information, we came to the conclusion that the destroyed homes will not be repaired,” adding: “We had legitimate doubts about whether our basic principles of humanitarian aid, such as neutrality, should be adhered to, under the specified circumstances. ”
And 28 organizations, associations and media networks, on the fifth of November, raised a protest letter to the “German for World Hunger Aid,” in which the latter reminded the forcible displacement of hundreds of thousands of the original Kurdish residents of Afrin, and hundreds of thousands of families of the militants were brought from other Syrian cities, as a result of the Turkish invasion, indicating that the families of the gunmen have been resettled in Afrin, in the homes of the forcibly displaced Kurds, in order to make the demographic change in the city
These organizations affirmed in their message that the association’s efforts contribute directly to perpetuating the reality of occupation, settlement, demographic change and assault on the private property of the displaced Kurds.
In her statement, the representative of the Association of Threatened Peoples for Ethnic and Religious Minorities in Göttingen, Lina Stutz, told the Evangelist Press Agency: The renovation of the houses would establish stability and support the plans of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to “Turkify and Islamize” Afrin residents. The resettlement of militia officers and their families in the homes of displaced Kurds, Christians and Yazidis as a change in the demographics of the area in contravention of international law. Turkey’s occupation of northern Syria should not be supported financially or rewarded.
The organization “Deutsche Welthungerhilfe” said it took the allegations “very seriously”. Since 2013, it has supported people in need who have fled the effects of war inside Syria. As is the case in other difficult contexts, humanitarian aid in Syria is being threatened again and again of becoming a game of political conflict, noting that “so far, no home repairs have been made.”
