Afrinpost – Special

The Turkish occupation and the militia of the Muslim Brotherhood loyal to it destroyed 31 archaeological sites and 11 religious shrines in the occupied Afrin region, according to a list obtained by Afrinpost from the Antiquities Directorate of Afrin region.

The Afrinpost website obtained a list of archaeological sites and shrines that were destroyed by the Turkish occupation and its militias, which were prepared by the Antiquities Directorate in Afrin region, over two and a half years of the Turkish occupation of the Kurdish region in northern Syria.

The list shows the destroyed sites, the date of their destruction, and the party (militia) that did that. The directorate says at the end of the prepared list: “All the sites mentioned in this table are excavated until now, and we do not know the percentage of damage to these sites, and the type of artifacts that were extracted from them and stolen then smuggled to Turkey and from there to the global black market. ”

According to Salah al-Din Sino, a member of the Antiquities Directorate in Afrin region, the number of destroyed sites and shrines is much greater.

Sino, a graduate of the Faculty of Archeology at Damascus University, added to the “Afrinpost“: The sites listed in the table were documented by us, and the sites that were excavated are much more than that, and our lack of documents makes the matter of their violation within the scope of oral narratives.

Salah al-Din Sino confirmed that the Turkish occupation is searching for antiquities among the olive trees belonging to the people, and searching for treasures to be transported to Turkey.

Among the many examples of violations, what was shown by a video clip of the destruction of the shrine of Sheikh Ali in the village of Basufan, which belongs to the Yazidi religion, and the “Afrinpost” had obtained exclusive pictures of the destruction of the shrine of Sheikh Rakab in the village of Shadereh, which also belongs to the followers of the Yazidi religion.
