Inspired by pain, “Laylun” International Film Festival launched at the camps of the displaced people of Afrin

Coinciding with the International Day of Peace, on September 21st, the opening activities of the “Laylun International Film Festival” began on Monday from “Barkhadan Camp” in Fafin sub-district of Al-Shahba region, on a stage that has been prepared for 6 months.

The opening of the “Laylun International Film Festival” was attended by representatives of the bodies and institutions of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, dozens of local and international media outlets, and thousands of displaced people of Afrin living in the camps.

The festival activities began with a minute of silence, after which speeches were delivered by the two members of the administration in the preparatory committee for the International Film Festival Laylun “Moheyeddin Arslan” and “Jenkin Abdo”, in addition to a speech by the co-chair of the Culture Authority for Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, “Aisha Rajab.”, and the co-chair of the Executive Council in the Autonomous Administration in Afrin region, “Shiraz Hamo”.

During their speeches, they welcomed the participants in the festival and praised the importance and status of the festival in light of the difficult circumstances and conditions that the people of Afrin are going through through forced displacement, and confirmed that they hold a lofty message in the face of the Turkish invasion and its inhuman practices against Afrin culture and art.

The opening event included listening to video messages by film directors participating in the festival from all over the world, and a theatrical presentation that included the preparation and goals of the Laylun Festival and its organizers.

Then the teams of the Culture and Art Authority of Afrin canton presented artistic performances of dancing and singing, and then a short film by director Mohamed Arsalan, which talks about the life of the artist Bave Salah, ended with the opening activities of the festival by dancing on Daf and Zurne music.

It is planned that the first day of the festival will start today, Tuesday, in the evening hours, with the screening of many films participating in the Laylun International Film Festival in Barkhadan and Sardam camps in Al-Shahba regions.
