Afrinpost – Special
Forcibly displaced people of Afrin live in a desperate condition grieving their land, and despite the cruelty of life they defy the circumstances by renewing the hope of liberating their land, with the third Eid Al-Adha that will pass in the obsession of war and forced displacement.
Amidst the grinding war, Afrin was an example of safety and peace
Three years ago, in such days, the Kurdish people of Afrin were making of their city an example of safety and peace, unlike many Syrian regions, where the markets and streets were crowded with people in preparation for Eid al-Adha in the most beautiful and best possible condition.
By the actions and crimes of the Turkish occupation, stability did not last
However, this stability and joy did not last, as the forced displaced people of Afrin, far from their homes, due to the crimes of the Turkish occupation army and the Muslim Brotherhood militants, were forced to stay for nearly two and a half years in Al-Shahba region, which is located near Afrin and resist in it to liberate their homeland .
The third Eid, they spend with sorrow
The war was not limited to forcibly displacing them, but also stole from them all their lives, money, dreams, and many other properties, and this is what makes Eid Al-Adha for nearly three years passes with grief and sorrow for the indigenous Kurdish people of Afrin. How they were used to be and how they are today!
Many details and rituals are absent from their holidays
The people of Afrin, who live in the camps of forced displacement were unable to practice the rituals of Eid, receive it and rejoice in its days like the rest days of the year, as many families were unable on this holiday to buy new clothes that would make their children happy, and they did not bake the cakes and sweets for the guests due to their poor condition after they lost everything in the occupied Afrin .
Aside from that, many of the people of Afrin were unable on the 18th of March to leave their homes for many different reasons, and this makes the holiday pass more difficult for the residents of Afrin because many people are unable to see and visit their relatives in the area.
Perhaps, forced displacement took away the joy from the faces of the people of Afrin, and Eid Al-Adha, like the rest of the passing days, does not carry them except to recall their sorrow and longing for return to their homeland.
Like the rest of the Syrians, the people of Afrin and the forced displaced ones suffer from the Caesar law and high prices, in addition to the spread of the Corona pandemic and many other factors that aggravate their suffering.
Despite the harsh conditions and all those obstacles that the people of Afrin face in Al-Shahba and inside Afrin, they are determined to face these difficulties and renew hope and optimism for the continued resistance, and the belief that the biggest holiday is represented in liberating their land and returning to their homes.
