The Turkish occupation continues to violate the integrity of archaeological sites in Afrin under the pretext of restoration …

Afrinpost – Special

On Wednesday, the third of June, Afrinpost recieved got video clips showing the continuation of the Turkish occupation in the excavation of the northern part of Nabi Hurri site, historically known as the city of “Cyrus”, causing great damage to the site.

Special sources confirmed to “Afrinpost” that the Turkish occupation intends to establish a park on the eastern side of the Nabi Hurri shrine, adding that he had removed the ancient wall of the Nabi Hurri shrine.

The sources added that the “alleged” restoration work carried out by the Turkish occupation aims to camouflage the excavation works with heavy machinery that are carried out in the vicinity of the archaeological site of the site.

In mid-May, a Turkish agency had published news saying that the Directorate of Endowments in the Turkish state of Antakya, Hatay, was restoring the monumental “Nabi Hurri” shrine and the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque located in the center of the “Shiye / Shakh Al-Hadid” district.

Pointing out that the “alleged” restoration work is carried out by the restoration teams, which includes about 40 people, experts and workers, and that it is expected that the restoration work will be completed by the end of this year.

Hattay Endowment Director, Umit Gokhan Cicek, told a press conference that the endowment’s restoration work is not limited to Hatay, adding, “For some time now we have been restoring the shrine of Nabi Huri and Omar Bin Al-Khattab Mosque in the Syrian area of Afrin.”

He added that “the General Directorate of Endowments attaches great importance to the restoration and revival of antiquities left by grandparents in Syria, as is the case in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and northern Macedonia” in a major historical fallacy, as the history of the Nabo Hurri site predates the ancestors of the Turkish Endowment Director with thousands of years!

This came after the Directorate of Antiquities of the Self-Administration in Afrin, which is based in Al-Shahba, said on the fourth of May, that “the Turkish occupation authorities and the factions loyal to it (have been) for two years and more committing grave violations against archaeological sites.”
