Curfew in Al-Shahba and Afrin refugee camps to combat Coronavirus

A curfew in the areas where the displaced of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin was imposed by the self-administration for two weeks, after a series of measures to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.

The Health Authority of the Self-Administration in Afrin put barriers at the main entrances to Al-Shahba areas to check the arrivals to the area, and a curfew was imposed on the people in the area.

Tens of thousands of displaced from the Afrin region are resident in 5 camps and about 42 villages in the Shahba regions, including the city of Tal Rifaat, adjacent to the Afrin region from the southeast side.

A complete curfew was imposed in all the areas of self-administration, the day before yesterday, Monday, , that this will continue initially for 15 days, with the possibility of extending it if necessary.

The self-administration excluded the decision to ban roaming, hospitals, public and private health centers, international organizations, the cross and the Red Crescent, pharmacies, sterilization committees, bakeries, food stores, food and milk trucks, and fuel tankers .

On the nineteenth of March, a number of self-management institutions in Al-Shahba had issued a statement regarding the health risks that the spread of the Corona virus could create, and mentioned the needs they need in order to cope with any possible spread of the virus.

It included various respiratory medical equipment, and said that this appeal is in the name of the displaced Afrin in Al-Shahba (northern Aleppo countryside) and was prepared by the Kurdish Red Crescent, in coordination and support: – Democratic Self-Administration in Al-Shahba – Camp Administration in Al-Shahba – Administration of Afrin Hospital – Health Authority in Al-Shahba – Human rights in Al-Shahba – The Kurdish Red Crescent in Al-Shahba.

In the context of preventive measures against the deadly Coronavirus, the residents of Sheikh Maksoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods (with Kurdish majority, in addition to the rest of the Syrian components), closed all shops and markets, while they were protected by the Asayish forces in Aleppo.

In order to avoid gatherings and prevent the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in the region, the residents of the “Sheikh Maksoud” neighborhoods in the western and eastern part of Maarouf and Ashrafieh closed all the shops.
