Afrinpost – Special
The correspondent of Afrinpost in the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin, north of Syria, said that the Turkish occupation has returned to bringing in concrete blocks to isolate Afrin from the Syrian interior, which is a continuation of a previous attempt.
The correspondent indicated that the Turkish occupation is bringing back the concrete blocks to Sherawa district, since yesterday, Tuesday, when about 60 trucks entered through the village of Basuta crossing to Sherawa via the mountain of “Ahlam”.
Since last April, the Turkish occupation has reinforced the fears of the indigenous Kurdish population of attempts to carve out the region from the Syrian lands, through a series of measures, including the removal of Syrian communication towers from Afrin in order to cut off the communication between the people of Afrin at home, the displaced in Al-Shahba, Aleppo, and others, and also began working on laying insulating walls Between the occupied villages in Sherawa and the villages under the Syrian regime’s forces, which the people of Afrin considered is compelling evidence of the Turkish desire to annex the Kurdish region.
The divergence of attitudes between the Russians, the Iranians, and the regime added to the ambiguity of the scene there, as the Russian newspaper “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” said on the thirteenth of last April that Russia turned a blind eye to Turkey’s seizure of Syrian lands, and drew to a new Russian-Turkish agreement to occupy Tal Rifaat, and confirmed that The Syrian regime and Iran reject this agreement.
According to the newspaper, reports indicated that there was an agreement between Moscow and Ankara, after which the Russians conducted joint patrols with the Turkish army in the Tal Rifaat area. The newspaper also notes that the current state is varied greatly today, and it appears that Damascus is no longer listening to Moscow’s advice and is ready to respond to the aggression.
Iran also rejected Turkey’s demands to withdraw from predominantly Shia cities such as Nubl and Zahra in the northern countryside of Aleppo province. Hezbollah units have already announced that they will defend these lands from any possible Turkish aggression.
The Russian newspaper saw that all these facts speak about one thing: Russia in Syria pursues interests that are somewhat inconsistent with the goals of the Syrian regime and its main ally, Iran.
