Islamic militias bomb Menagh Military Airport

Afrinpost – Special

Afrinpost correspondent in Al-Shahba areas said that four shells originating from the Islamic militias affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood fell on the Menagh military airport, in the Shara \ Sharan district of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin.

The reporter added that the damages were limited to the material, without receiving information about the victims or the injured.

In February 2015, the Syrian Democratic Forces managed to liberate the Menagh military airport from the Islamic militia of the Muslim Brotherhood, which they call themselves the “Free Army” and later the “National Army”.

The importance of the airport can be achieved at several points, including the large area, which is located east of the Aleppo / Azaz Highway, and the importance of the airport lies in the presence of a road between Tel Refaat / Azaz, just east of the airport.

The area of Meng Airport is 8 km2, and it contained a number of helicopters during the reign of the Syrian regime, and Menagh Airport is the fourth military airport in the northern countryside of Aleppo after the airports (Kweres, Giza, Aleppo International Military and Civil).

And during the control of the Islamic militia, the airport was a center for the distribution of weapons and ammunition coming from the border point of Bab Al-Salama in Azaz with the Turkish occupation, which has always provided militants with weapons, ammunition and money.

The Islamic militia affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood intentionally controlled the airport to make it a launching pad for attacks on the Kurdish region of Afrin, which was then under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces and Self-Administration, as well as attacks from it on the predominantly Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maksoud.
