The human rights organization in the occupied Kurdish province of Afrin issued a statement on Sunday condemning the Turkish military attribution to the autonomous areas in northern and eastern Syria, delivered by its member Jihan Ali in Sardam camp, which includes thousands of displaced Afrin.
The organization said that the Turkish military invasion called the “spring of peace” came under “flimsy arguments and pretexts that have no basis and no legal document, in contravention of the Charter of the United Nations, especially Article 2, which obliges all States to respect the sovereignty of other Member States and refrain from the use of force against The territorial integrity and political independence of another State in the United Nations. ”
The organization said in a statement that “the Turkish occupation unleashed the factions loyal to it, remnants of the terrorist organization Da’esh and Jabhat al-Nusra under the name of the Syrian National Army in spreading terror among innocent civilians and committing the most heinous crimes against unarmed civilians in the world.”
Classified as war crimes, in accordance with the Charter of the Nuremberg International Military Court of 1945 and Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court of 1998, such as the deliberate killing and ill-treatment of civilians, the killing of hostages, the theft of public and private property and field executions, such as the political (Havrin Khalaf) and a number of her companions.
“Other crimes include the use of internationally prohibited weapons prohibited by the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868, as well as the degrading and ill-treatment of prisoners of war in violation of the Third Geneva Convention of 1949 and its Protocol of 1977, Articles 3 to 4 thereof, and a living example,” the statement added. “As a human rights organization operating in northeastern Syria, we appeal to all UN and humanitarian organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross and the international conscience, to fulfill their responsibility under international laws and covenants to intervene, monitor the treatment of prisoners, and demand their immediate release and return to their homes due to the cessation of hostilities.” In accordance with Article IV of the Third Geneva Convention, 1949.
